retracings

I was drawn to the Raqs Media Collective/First Information Report reading because I am very intrigued by documentaries. Parallelling this reading to the Kujundzic reading, the documentary is conducive to the memory of historical tragedies, whether it be something as minuscule as a personal crisis or something as devastating as the holocaust; it keeps society in check by attempting to make sense of the realities that we are living in. If these recoveries or memories and history/archives were lost or not recorded, history would continue to repeat itself. In the case of ‘katzetnik’, we may have never known about the atrocities committed by Adolf Eichmann, had he fallen face down on the ground and almost died in front of no one. In other words, even though he had not spoken the horrors of the crimes, his physical reaction was so intense that it became a record, or tracing if you will, viewed by those who have now conveyed the story to us, through an unspoken narrative that had overwhelming meaning.
