I appreciate Jacques Derrida's article, that notes the archive only exists with a cognant external place. Simply explained, the creation of an archive is not enough, it needs to be seen by a viewer to become real.
An artist work does not exist until it is viewed by the public eye "recognize and memory". Being a great artist is only great to the artist's ego when unshown. If the artist is not seen by a cognitive external source or the correct judgment of worth by an exterior consciouseness then there can be no repitition, no archiving, no traces or very little traces of the artist. Instead what is left is the person not the artist.
I had a little trouble with the death drive though......sounds interesting, will read what people typed and re formutlate its meaning to me.
